RESEARCH ON PANDEMIC PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE AGENDA
Funded by Malaria No More UK, Amyn worked with the Policy and Strategy team at Malria No More UK, developing the “Pandemic Preparedness and Malaria Interface” global report on pandemic preparedness and its relation to fight against malaria. The project consists of both qualitative and quantitative components including looking at the Malaria Incidence Survey and qualitative interviews with key stakeholders globally on issues like climate change, finance and malaria vaccine.
STRATEGIC PROGRAMME MAPPING OF UNESCO'S WORK ON DISABILITY INCLUSION - DEVELOPMENT OF UNESCO STRATEGIC DIRECTION
Quantitative and qualitative evaluation of 60 UNESCO projects(globally) over the 2015-2021 period; development of typology framework of interventions and intervention modalities; conducted qualitative research with UNESCO project leads on UNESCO disability programming, authored analytical report with strategic recommendations and suggestions. RESEARCH ON UNDERSTANDING THE GENDERED DIMENSION OF EDUCATION AND THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC FOR LEARNERS WITH DISABILITIES
Funded by the World Bank, Amyn conducted the literature review of quantitative data from the UNICEF(MCIS) database of 10 countries in Asia and Africa, he also developed conceptual framework for the national situation analysis and for the co-construction of research instruments, ethical approvals, and data collection mechanisms.
RESEARCH ON SCHOOL VIOLENCE AND BULLYING OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES IN THE EASTERN AND SOUTHERN AFRICAN REGION
Funded by UNESCO, Amyn led the methodology and tool development, training and supervision of researchers for 8 weeks of data collection in 5 African countries, sought permission from national authorities for ethics, developed data analysis framework, facilitated participatory workshops throughout the process for country ownership and capacity development, managed team of 8 researchers across 5 African countries. PROJECT ON MESSAGING FOR INCLUSION: IDENTYFYING RELEVANT FACTORS FOR DISABILITY AND AGE INCLUSIVE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
Funded by ELHRA, Amyn was the Principal Investigator of the research project. He led the conceptualistaion and devlopment of the project from its initial design to project managmengt, implementation, monitoring and knowledge management. Conducted literature review for the project with research team. Developed ethical protocols for the data collection and safeguarding processes. Overseeing research methodology and policy development in coordination with academic partners. Report
PROJECT ON EXTRA COST OF DISABILITY IN EDUCATION- GIRLS EDUCATION IN SOUTH SUDAN (GESS2)
GESS2 is the flagship programme of Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office , it is transforming the lives of a generation of children in South Sudan – especially girls and those in the margins of society– through education. Amyn was the lead in developing the Concept note on disability and cash transfers in education “The Extra Cost of Disability – A case for increased Cash Transfer” and development of full proposal for the extra cost of disability research in education. He was the programme lead in preparing the groundwork for the study including literature reviews, development of quantitative and qualitative tools, analysis plans and training of school teams for data gathering and monitoring. INNOVATION TO INCLUSION - EXTRA COST OF DISABILITY AND INCLUSIVE SOCIAL PROTECTION
A multiyear programme funded by FCDO for developing inclusive social protection mechanisms in Bangladesh and Kenya, Amyn was the research and project lead for the social protection project. During the three year project, under Amyn's leadership following milestones were achieved:
- Development of methodology for extra cost of disability.
- Development of a mixed method research plan based on the methodology devised in the extra cost paper.
- Completed quantitative data analysis of data from Bangladesh and Kenya collected through surveys from 2,000 people with disabilities and their families.
- Conducted review of social protection systems and policies in participating countries through literature review and focus group discussions.
- Development of an access to work scheme in Bangladesh and Kenya based on the findings of the research.
DEVELOPMENT OF AT SCALE STAKEHOLDER STRATEGY
Amyn was the lead consultant in developing the stakeholder strategy for UN ATScale, he led the development of research enquiry framework, desk review, data collection and consultation (online survey with key AT scale partners and volunteer organizations), conducted stakeholder mapping and facilitated multi-stakeholder workshop, co-authored stakeholder strategy for AT Scale.
